Gene Vincent — Spaceship to Mars (1962)
vruz: space era rockabilly: mars, tentacles and all.
via lacontessa:I heard this on the radio earlier this week and I’ve been singing it ever since. It’s silly and quite adorable and I now have a bit of a thing for Gene Vincent… To the youtubes!

According to Nicholas Ray’s autobiography:
Nicholas Ray and James Dean spent many weeks together in New York before the production of Rebel Without a Cause. Ray was trying to win Dean’s trust; Ray wanted Dean to star as Jim Stark in Rebel but Dean wasn’t quite ready to commit to a project that would certainly establish him as a leading man in Hollywood. Dean wanted to make sure Ray was up for such a responsibility.
One night while at an Italian restaurant, Ray and Dean discussed the script. At some point during the dinner, Dean leaned across the table and whispered to Ray, “I have crabs.” After dinner, Ray took Dean to a nearby drugstore and suggested a remedy for Dean’s crabs. Dean thanked Ray and told him that he wanted to be in Rebel Without a Cause. Ray, needless to say, had won Dean’s trust.
